In 2013 Etna Fire Department was able to secure a grant for new AEDs for Etna Fire and Etna Police Departments. At that time, our old AEDs were repurposed to the first ever Etna public access AED program located in the borough office, swimming pool, and Daugherty Field Consession Stand. Those AEDs have been applied to dozens of patients in cardiac arrest over the past 10 years and are now end of their equipment life.
With the generous support of Etna Borough Council, we were able to purchase 12 new Stryker Lifepak CR2 Plus AEDs to replace all Etna Fire, Police and Borough AEDs and actuallly add one for Etna Public Works. The CR2 Plus is the latest and greatest in AED technology and follows the most up to date American Heart Association cardiac arrest standards for continuous chest compressions. Each emergency response vehicle and every borough owned location will have one available. These new AEDs are compatable with the cardiac monitors used by Shaler Hampton EMS making continuity of care a priority.
Our old AED’s will be brought back in and parted out to make as many usable AEDs as possible and those will be distributed to community gathering locations.
Thank you to Etna Borough Council, Etna Police, Etna Fire Dept, And Shaler Hampton EMS for this excellent collaboration, planning and hard work to keep our community safe and healthy.
